[RC] an overhead tie distance question - Jonni Jewell

It seems to be recommended that overhead tie systems (IE Hi-Ties) be placed
at a heights of 7', and then 14' apart from each other, if more than one is
to be mounted on the side of the trailer.

Here is my question. Because I do not have a real long trailer, and with the
location of the tack door etc., my hi-ties will be closer that the 14'
apart. Has anyone mounted them closer...say about 12' ' 13' apart? If they
are at that distance, then the tie ropes, if pulled straight towards the
other, will indeed "cross into" the other tie space. Not sure if the horses
will actually get themselves tangled with the other horses rope or not. It
is not that much of a "cross over", maybe a foot or so. I can see what the
companies recommend them to be 7' high, 14' apart, and I appreciate them
trying to eliminate potential problems with users of the products...but
reality...anyone have them closer?

I'd love to hear of any problems, or if you do have them closer together, if
you have had no problems. Getting ready to mount them on the trailer.....

I know that I have tied to the side of the trailer, where two horses could
scratch each others backs etc., but never had them tangle. Am I missing
something in the hi-tie, that would be a problem??

Thanks so much....

Riding alone is when you teach a horse all the "tools" and "cues" he needs
to handle the trail, to hold a speed, deal with hills, etc. It's also where
you develop the "bond" that causes him to "defer" to you before losing his
cool.
