I agree that string mohair girths are great, but still... some horses will gall from them. A long time ago, a fellow told me that his way of dealing with that is to take the girth and cut and remove the mohair strings that are sewed crosswise up near the rings.This does not change the girth in any way, except for the fact that you now no longer have the extra thickness of the strings that go crosswise and that seemed to be the area that caused the galls on his horse. That is for a western mohair cinch. An english mohair girth usually doesn't have the cross stitching.
