Re: [RC] [RC] [RC] Snakes - sreidIn my younger days right after I graduated college with my shiny new degree I worked for the US Gov. on the Savanah River Plant. My job was to wade in the swamps, paddle up the creeks and rivers and check on radiation levels, and plants ect on the plant grounds.... needless to say I was constantly running into snakes. You are right about cottonmouths, almost. They are agressive, but they don't come after you for fun. They will give ground if properly treated. I ran in to the same snakes every month. They really are more afraid of you than you think. I worked it out with my "friends" the snakes, I waited them out and they left. I was armed with a meter stick, no guns, no rocks. Just be still, hold your ground... eventually they will leave. My favorite story is when I saw a snake all curled up in a ball.... a yellow snake. I thought, " what in the world kind of snake is yellow?" I bent over close and plunked it on the back with a 5" long twig.....Up popped it's head, then up rattled it's tail. It was an 18 " canebrake rattler, just shed out of it's skin so it was pretty and yellow! I backed up kinda quick then. I only got threatened once (yes, a cottonmouth, and their mouths are kind of blueish white inside) but eventually he left too. You guys can waste all that energy and emotion killing them, but they really won't bother you if you give them the respect they want. (but maybe don't deserve) OK everybody, get out the flame throwers....... Sally (no I don't do that job anymore. And that was after the job exercising race horses) ============================================================ If you treat an Arab like a Thoroughbred, it will behave like a Quarter horse. ~ Libby Llop ridecamp.net information: http://www.endurance.net/ridecamp/ ============================================================
