RE: [RC] [RC] Keeping one's seat - Laurie DurginHunter/Jumpers have shorter stirrup lengths for support during jumping, too long a stirrrup jumping and your leg often slings back and messes up your balance. And the higher you jump the more you shorten your stirrups. Also kids often post off their feet as they don't have the leg strength to post off their thighs. Then you don't have to go so high, just lifting your seat up. Practice posting without stirrups to find out if you post off your feet or thighs or just to strengthen your muscles.(on a safe horse in a safe area of course). (My daughter teaches kids huntseat) Usually they shorten a hole on their stirrups for each foot up or so. I personally ride with shorter stirrups cause I ride lots of hills, I tried lengthening them when I got my new saddle, but couldn't support my seat going up and down hills as well, so I ride with it at ankle or one up.Can't 2 pt. very well with long stirrups.
