Re: [RC] tethering a puller? - sreidI was given a very nice horse for just this reason. She would sit on anything until she was free. I got a "be nice" halter and a 1" cotton rope with a bull snap. I wet the rope and tied her high to a metal plate on an oak wall. She sat down for awhile, then just gave up. I tied her daily for a half hour, then later to the trailer. I continued to use the "be nice" for 1 year. I was able to teach her to load and work on the long line after that. She went to a breed show and won the class. Every one was amazed.I was the third person to try to break her of her "pullin' and plown' behavior... I won. I tie her daily now, and she is fine. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jeannie Gillen" <jeanniegillen@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: "Ridecamp Guest" <guest-owner@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>; <ridecamp@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Saturday, April 03, 2004 11:50 AM Subject: Re: [RC] tethering a puller? Been there, done that.....mine did better on an overhead tie line and a bunge type lead rope.....much better....the "give" of the bunge gave him time to realize he didn't need to panic... ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ridecamp Guest" <guest-owner@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <ridecamp@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Saturday, April 03, 2004 6:43 AM Subject: [RC] tethering a puller? Please Reply to: pattie holsbeke horseygrandma2000@xxxxxxxxx or ridecamp@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ========================================== Hi, I was wondering if anyone had a horse that pulled when tied and what you did when they were tethered at an over night ride? I just got this horse in Jan. and he will stand ok with a benice halter and a good rope and a solid post but I am afraid of what he will do on a tether. We camp often and will be going to overnight rides. By tether I mean a rope between two poles or trees tied over head with a knot elimanator. We use a strong rope but I am not sure if it will hold him if he throws back and don't want to find out in the middle of the night. Any suggestions are appreciated. {He is an Arab and very smart}Thanks pattie h. ==================== Just because someone tells you that your horse isn't "fit" for endurance...doesn't mean it isn't, it just means your horse isn't fit to be "their" endurance horse!
