Re: [RC] [AERC-Members] New LD BC Rule - Paul LatiolaisI have been biting my tongue until now , but REALLY, I do have to take umbrage here, as the PNW Regional LD Champion in BC for 2003 ( Well, actually, it was my horse that got the award).I had an endurance person say to my face last month, "That does not count. It is not REAL endurance." It does not matter that it is not endurance, and you may not think it counts. These people support endurance through their participation, and it is important to reward them for their participation. Yes, to REAL endurance riders, it is not something they would be proud of. But that is NOT the point. The point is to support those people who take care of their horses. AND support the good treatment of those horses through BC awards. I say there should not be one BC award in the LD; there should be more than one award, based on various criteria. We should do everything we can to encourage people to consider the condition of their horse, ESPECIALLY at the LD rides, where most people start. I would go so far to say, do BC's instead of top ten for the LD's. I know a heavy-weight (no names) that has never missed a top ten in an LD that was completed. This person NEVER received a BC in four years of competing in LDs and HAS gotten a number of metabolic and lameness pulls. What does that tell you? It tells me a lot. BTW,we just completed our first 50. I'll still plan to do an occasional LD, but I am now hooked on REAL endurance. -Paul L. On Thursday, April 1, 2004, at 10:11 PM, Howard Bramhall wrote:
