Don't forget that the foal is the one that determines gestational length, not the mare. And that the foal gets half of its genetics from daddy. Our family that routinely takes a year or more all trace back to my foundation stallion--he had such an impact on due dates that virtually every mare bred to him took close to a year. Didn't matter how long their gestations had been by other stallions. I am still seeing the tendency in his grandkids--doesn't matter whether they are by his son or out of one of his daughters or granddaughters...
