I bought a used Suzuki Esteem, wagon type because I wanted power steering, air conditioning and something my dog could ride in. He is 115 lbs and 29 inches tall. I did notice that when he sits in the back his head touches the roof and it has a permanent coating of German Shepherd hair.
It gets about 28 mpg and is a 4 cylinder, front wheel drive engine.
If I had my pick I would have a Toyota or maybe VW. My old Toyota p/u had 350,000 miles and the engine was so quiet you had to make sure you did not try to start it when it was already running......I just got tired of having two pickups and no place for more than one passenger or I would still have one of the Toyotas I had.
