[RC] horses that pull back - Jonni Jewell

It is VERY difficult for a horse who is tied overhead to set back against a
rope and pull. When teaching horses to tie, we always tied them up high.
When you tie a horse at chest level (or below) then they can really set
back, into that rope and put their weight against it. If you get a horse
that has learned to pull back, and break ropes, halters etc., you can often
teach them to tie, by doing so with a strong overhead tree limb or such, and
a nice stout rope and halter. Once they learn the can break things, many
will keep pulling back when tied. But being tied where they can not lean
back against the rope (and where the rope or halter does not break), many
learn that they can stand tied and deal with it.
