Re: [AERC-Members] [RC] Drug testing in CA - heidiNot many of the rides around here loop back into camp, so unless you sent your "drug of choice" out with your crew/ in your crew bag (wondering why you would do this?), it would be hard to drug your horse on the last loop. The few folks that I've ever thought were likely drugging their horses were years and years ago (like Edie's blatant example)--and they pretty much all had someone crewing for them that took their whole rig from vet check to vet check. So it wouldn't have been any problem to have the rig "stocked" with whatever they wanted. Like Edie's example, the horse would come in looking really ragged and disappear behind the truck for 10 minutes and come back looking pretty presentable. The common denominator between the ones I knew is that their horses tended to last a maximum of three rides, and sometimes not even that long. The best part is that none of them stayed at the sport for any length of time--they found out that they couldn't cheat their way into long-term success and respect, so they all went on to find something easier to stroke their egos.
