[RC] re: age for 100 milers - Cindy CollinsEveryone seems to disagree. I know that most people feel they really should be at least 6. Dave Nicholson would likely say 7 or 8. Generally, I wouldn't ride one on a 100 miler until they were at least six, but it absolutely depends upon the horse. I have started two five year old horses with a 100 miler and both did great and went on to have successul careers. However, they were both Arab crosses and very mature 5 year olds. Studying the Tevis records would be enlightening, too. Guess it's best to err on going older!
