Re: [RC] traveling wide - sharp pennyI believe some horses learn to travel wide behind as they get more endurance miles under their girth. My guy Reno was a 3rd level dressage horse in his past life...when I got him he traveled very elevated in the front and had a rather parky trot. I never noticed him traveling noticably wide behind. Last year on a conditioning ride a friend noted how wide he traveled behind and how she noticed alot of good endurance horses had that trait. I was surprised..I know his trot has lengthened and he had learned to travel in more of a hunter frame than the hightly elevated dressage frame (except when he gets excited and starts pieffing in place) over the 3 years of endurance training/conditioning miles I have put on him. Today I noticed him cruzing around the pen harrassing my very prego paint mare and realized he has learned to travel VERY wide behind and does the *squat and reach* thing with his hind legs when he really wants to cover ground. Has anyone else noticed their horse learning to travel wide? Regards, Penny As far as I'm concerned, I think traveling wide is a plus.
