Re: [RC] Wad R Bucket - Jim HollandApril... I soak the beetpulp overnite. Next morning, I put enough soaked beet pulp in the bag with about a coffee cup of Omolene plus two scoops of P'n W to end up with a quart. Stir it up well with my hand, then seal the bag. If you use gallon bags, it will be easier to mix it...doesn't take up any more space...just roll it up and mash all the air out, the seal it. You can vary the mixture to meet your needs. I'm mainly interested in the beet pulp and the electrolytes, but the sweet feed makes it a little more palatable. I have been known to dump in shredded carrots, too, just for variety. If a creek is handy, I will dump it in the bucket, then splash in a little extra water for a slurry. If your horse is picky, try crushing up some of the Oats and Honey Nature Valley Granola Bars in it. Somewhat expensive, but I've never seen a horse that didn't think they were to die for. Sunny will slam on the breaks and turn his head around to get some when he hears the plastic rattle. I've done that so much with Magic, that after a couple of hours, he's slowing down and looking back ready for his "snack"! :) Another tip...the Wad R Bucket gets messy. After you feed the first time, stuff it the leftover plastic bag to keep your packs clean. Carry "Wet Ones" to clean up your hands. About 5 Wet Ones" folded twice and rolled up will fit a 35mm film container perfectly. Takes up very little space, doesn't dry out or leak. The "travel packs" won't take the abuse of riding. Also useful for potty breaks! :) Jim, Sun of Dimanche, and Mahada Magic (Who eats anything that he doesn't think might eat him!) April wrote: Just what I was looking for! It's called the Wad R Bucket. $12.95 + shipping from Sportack.com Very cute. Quick question, Jim. Do you dump dry beetpulp and water into the plastic bag, or do you pre-soak and then load the baggies? This is definitely something I am interested in. I (with all of 2 LD rides behind me) am a firm believer in taking care of my horse regardless of the spacing of the vet checks, length of holds, or anything of the kind. So being able to feed on the trail regardless of the amount of grass available is of utmost interest to me. Also, that question posed by Julie Suhr sometime back made me want to have a bucket to pour my water bottles into if I realize my horse needs water and none is available on the trail.
