When my mare was younger, 2 or so, she must have been bitten by one
of the other horses on her ear. She had a scab that eventually
healed since she wouldn't let me touch it. Must have been pretty
sore. She wasn't that great about having her ears touched before I
noticed the scab and since then, she's really bad about you messing with
her ears. Kind of funny, because you can bend her ears over and
everything for bridling, but try to touch them without bridling and she
won't let you get near them.
After reading about the horses that drop dead from
possible parasitic damage, I have a question (or 2!) My horse
comes from a questionable background, I got him at 5 years old and I
was told he'd been dewormed yearly. He has/had huge mouth issues and
left ear issues (that are much better) but give the impression he'd
been held by his ear and given his worm meds. Is there any way to if he
could be one of those horses I've been reading about on RC lately? He
was born on 100 acres, minimal handling or care and then after he hit
2 years old, was put on another 100 acre pasture with 8 bachelors
and some cattle. Any clues on damage or any other
advice?
