Re: [RC] parasitic damage - LindaAt a horse clinic given by UT (University of Tennessee, Dr. Dennis Geiser) I asked about long term damage done by parasites. The instructor is supposedly an expert in the field of parasites, and yet when I asked the direct question of long term damage, he said that other than colic that can occur when a badly infested horse is first wormed, that there was no permanent damage to horses. I have bought horses that I don't know the worming history on, and that is why I was concerned. But he reassured me that after a recovery period, that the tissue would be healthy. I'm not saying that I believe this... but that is what they are teaching to vet students here. I'd be interested in other opinions on this. But if it's any comfort for Heidi... he also said that horses kept on large areas are much less likely to have major infestation problems. Linda After reading about the horses that drop dead from possible parasitic damage, I have a question (or 2!) My horse comes from a questionable background, I got him at 5 years old and I was told he'd been dewormed yearly. He has/had huge mouth issues and left ear issues (that are much better) but give the impression he'd been held by his ear and given his worm meds. Is there any way to if he could be one of those horses I've been reading about on RC lately? He was born on 100 acres, minimal handling or care and then after he hit 2 years old, was put on another 100 acre pasture with 8 bachelors and some cattle. Any clues on damage or any other advice? ===== Heidi-aerc#M20935 /\_/\~ http://www.synjinarts.com ~~/~~ \\~~~~ (Wildlife/Western & Equine / O> ) \~~~~~ Art) / __/ \~~~~~~ (_@_/ | \~~~~ | \~~~~~~ | \~~~~ __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
