Well, first, I don't agree with your contention that


Now, we've gone overboard

I don't see a huge portion of the games being equestrian, now or ever.




I suppose one equine sport, like chariot racing, was ok.


Ah, but the ancient games had more than just chariot racing, including one mounted race in which the rider had to dismount and run along with the horse for the final lap...gee, that sounds kinda familiar.
