[RC] [Guest] No Hands Bridge - Ridecamp Moderator

My wife and I made our first attempt at Tevis in 1971. We were
pre riding the trail backwards from Auburn and encountered Paige
Harper just below Robie Point. He introduced himself an said that he would be glad to show us the way across the bridge.

We had just come out of the last Black Hole and met Dianne
Marquand ( Dianne Calgget) and Smokey Killen on the trail.
Smokey was fully dressed in his Vaquero outfit and superbly
 detailed Silver Saddle.  My five year old mare had a really
hard time getting by this most interesting pair.
Paige just took a nice trot to the bridge amd we quietly followed
in train. As we arrived at the bridge he told  us his story of
meeting a very nice young man with a giant truck inner tube
about half-way across, the horse took one look at this monster
and ran backwards and actually managed to stick a hind foot
off the side of the bridge.

Paige won the ride in1962 and the Haggin Cup in 1964 and 1968.

I was on the West side of the when Lari and Steve came by at
a full gallop in 1989.... WOW/////
