In my opinion, it is more convenient and easier than a stethoscope. I like to concentrate more on how the horse is doing by observation, but would like to be able to verify heart rate when necessary...mostly beginning, middle and end of a conditioning ride. My own horse won't be ready for competition for another 3-4 years at least (she's only one) and I probably will only do one or two rides/year with a borrowed horse until then. So I would like to hear about your experiences with a wand rather than a monitor.
