Re: [RC] torsion axles v.s. spring or others - Ed and Wendy Hauser

I've run both over the last 30 years. As I see it the differences are:
1. Spring axles cost a bit less.
2. Spring axles are less sensitive to hitch height. The evener makes up for
some of the difference in height.
3. The spring shakles have to be greased. If not greased often enough
springs and or shakles will break. Some are have rubber bushings which do
not need to be greased, but in wet and salty climates rust can freeze the
rubber bushings and things break.
4. Torsion axles are supposed to ride easier, but I have never ridden in a
trailer so I don't know.

The bottom line is that I prefer torsion, but would buy springs again if the
price was right. I would definately look for greasable ones and pump grease
in them two times a year. They will last forever if you do that.
