RE: [RC] Preventing Treated Horses - Bob MorrisHeidi: You stated<<< I don't know who Bob has asked when he says this information doesn't exist--a fair amount of it must exist somewhere to have generated the reports that the vets have been given at convention in years past.>>> Well, though the vets may have been privy to the information, no one else was. If you doubt my comments ask the Office or ask Randy Eiland, who investigated the matter last year. The records do not exist prior to about 2001. Pl3ease note the following comments: <<<The PRSR is the responsibility of the Head Vet and not the Ride Management. Please refer to the 2001 Midyear BOD Minutes and subsequent bod dialogue on this form. The reason was the extremely poor return record of this form in 2000 and 2001 (120+/- returned out of 1200+ required).>>> <<<Until the DATA Study Group requested the PRSR's, no one knew that nearly none had been turned in. How would AERC know? This was a document requested by the Vet Committee for their benefit. The actual PRSR does not say where it is supposed to go after the Head Vet fills it out. although I always assumed it went to the Vet Committee. I don't know where the Vet Committee thought the PRSR was supposed to go, but it does state on the form: "The goal is to examine reasons for non-completions and to identify types of metabolic and lameness problems, and to ultimately decrease them.">>>> Bob Bob Morris Morris Endurance Enterprises Boise, ID -----Original Message----- From: ridecamp-owner@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:ridecamp-owner@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx]On Behalf Of Heidi Smith Sent: Monday, February 17, 2003 11:24 PM To: Jim Holland; Ridecamp Subject: Re: [RC] Preventing Treated Horses A-hah!...and how are we supposed to know the "truth"? The lack of "truth" causes just what you describe. If the Vet Report could be referred to for the "truth", then there would not be speculation, inuendo, accusations, and people getting tried in "internet court". With no facts, what we generate is an example of the FUD factor...Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt. I can't speak to what has happened in the past couple of years, but I know prior to that time, any vets attending the annual CE meeting got at least an overview of what went on with horse deaths, treatments, etc. I know I've filled in my share of treatment forms and a few death forms as well over the years. Somebody has this stuff, and somebody has done SOMETHING with it at least some years. I don't know who Bob has asked when he says this information doesn't exist--a fair amount of it must exist somewhere to have generated the reports that the vets have been given at convention in years past. As to the "Internet Court"--it has been my experience that many of the folks who do the most "roasting" on the Net don't care to have facts interfere with their agendas anyway. So I doubt that having the facts publicly available would much change the approach of those who like to hide behind the anonymity of a keyboard and screen to be vicious. This isn't to say that we should not be diligently collecting data--we certainly SHOULD be. Just my observations on human nature and internet forums in general....
