Re: [RC] Presidents Cup - press release - Barbara McCraryAh, yes....after reading Angie's post below, I realize that the "betting on the outcome of the President's cup" has indeed reached others. Wish I had an idea how we can stop this in its tracks....NOW. He will be riding in the race along >with a> few other American endurance riders and their horses. Yeah, I notice they invited some of our best mountain horses (winner of Tevis, OD, Vermont...) Sort of like inviting a NASCAR driver to bring his car that's set up for Darlington to race at Daytona...but then...Oh yeah...we expect our championship races to be over rugged terrain. Their whole news release just screams for a rebuttal. They so desperately want Endurance to be an Olympic sport, but they set that bid back 10 years with the disaster in Spain being sooo much in the spotlight. Great press...two horses dead and a 16 year old rides a horse he'd never been on to be proclaimed the "World Champion" So now how can we improve the image by offering all comers a chance at a $50,000 pot? I love the part in the release describing how dominant they are. My daughter was in here last night making a game out of checking the names of their winning horses, then finding them in an older issue ridden by Meg Wade. Perhaps they should word the release: "Endurance racing is beginning to capture the public's attention in the Middle East with so many riders from this region convincing top trainers from all over the world that everyone and everything has a price" I honestly don't have anything against them being in the sport. I hope they love it as much as I do...but I wish they'd just chill out, quit trying so hard. Personally, I'm kinda waiting for them to give up on the Olympics and stop buying more horses than they can ride...then the bottom falls out of the "endurance horses for profit business" just like it did the Arabian Show Horse business back in the 80's.
