[RC] Hold Times - Stagg_NewmanApril, Right on! I frequently take a bit of extra time in holds if needed, particularly on 100s. And in fact have done so in rides I have won. Giving a few minutes away early in a ride to make sure your horse has enough fuel and electrolytes late in a ride can pay big dividends in having a horse that finishes healthy, happy, and strong. Stagg From: AprJhn@xxxxxxxxxxxx (AprJhn) Subject: [RC] Hold Times During the recent discussion on preventing treatments at rides, several people have expressed the wish for longer hold times at certain points. Correct me if I'm wrong, but a horse and rider team does not have to leave the hold area right at the end of their hold. So if I want a 45 minute rest or hold, I can take that time. If I think my horse would benefit from an extra 15 minutes, I should take the extra 15 minutes. If I don't (when I think I should), I am putting ride time or placement ahead of the welfare of my horse.
