Re: [RC] Hoof Injury - Stefffi_cSusan, If your horse's injury is down into the coronary band you may not want to do this since this area is very sensitive and could prove painful. Star got her cut in August, it was my first crisis after leasing my own barn. LOL My horse pawed my high tensile wire, slicing the bulb of her heal about 2" deep, most of the way through. It was a very clean cut and didn't scar; I used some Marigold Ointment on it that I got at KVVet supply years ago and I think that really helped prevent scarring. I have keloid scarring, very rare in the white race, but I scar horribly from minor wounds. I tried the Marigold ointment on me and I didn't scar, either, so I really like it for wounds that you don't want to scar. When I put the hoofmate soaked strips into her hoof I pressed them down into the clefts of the frog, since the cut was from the top of her hoof down I assume that none got in there. I'm aware that it's sensitive, but hoofmate doesn't burn my hands when I have scratches, so I figured my farrier was right that it wouldn't hurt her. My horse developed severe thrush as a 2 year old just previous to EPM treatment and has never completly gotten rid of it. I've tried bleach strait and 50% dillution, Thrush Buster, Koppertox, Hoofmate, and strait lime. Hoofmate keeps it under control with weekly applications, but if anyone out there has a better idea/product I'm open to suggestions to get rid of it once and for all! I'm a stickler for clean stalls, and my horse is pastured 99% of the time, so I don't think it's living conditions. Baby diapers? That's one of the best ideas for hoof wrapping I've heard! TY for that, it'll make my life tons easier next time I have to go through this! Stephanie __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo!
