RE: [RC] AERC stuff - Bob MorrisWhat Steph wrote here is entirely correct but it is not the entire story by any means. She wrote <<<If you have something you want the Board to address, you need to get it on the agenda of the meetings. Through a committee, or via a director. If you don't get your issue on the agenda, chances are it will stay in the 'stuff to be concerned about' file.>>>> First off, no one outside the BoD has any idea as to what will be discussed at the Board Meeting. The agenda, and here I mean the topics in detail, are never revealed until it is to late for any knowledgeable input. Right now is when we should be speaking with our Directors and Committee Chairs. But what about? we do not have any concept of what the BoD has been discussing since the mid-year meeting as it is all privileged and restricted to the BoD only! There have been a number of proposals from this venue alone. I myself submitted a resolution in proper for to the Board. Will it be discussed or even considered? I do not know, as the BoD, in almost its entirety, has declined to comment on its merits. In fact the BoD has so declined on any matters discussed on Ride Camp or other forums. They only hold discussions in-camera. Also states was<<But a motion - a resolution - which is presented to the Board, which is part of the agenda, will get discussed and will get voted on. It will become part of the permanent record - the minutes of the corporation.>>> I will take bets on that one! There is little or no business being conducted by the Board between these meetings. If you have something you want the Board to address, you need to get it on the agenda of the meetings. Through a committee, or via a director. If you don't get your issue on the agenda, chances are it will stay in the 'stuff to be concerned about' file. It's not that others don't agree, or that the Board doesn't care. It is simply a function of the way the organization conducts business. Even bringing things up at the general session (such as Jim says he will do) doesn't necessary accomplish anything. There are many Board members, a single question might get 25 different answers. But a motion - a resolution - which is presented to the Board, which is part of the agenda, will get discussed and will get voted on. It will become part of the permanent record - the minutes of the corporation. This is where stuff happens, and this is how AERC can track it's progress. Find the appropriate committee, or a director willing to take your issue to the meetings, and keep at it. It's great to talk about this stuff, and it raises the level of awareness. And may convince some directors to vote one way or another on an issue... but if it doesn't get to the meetings, doesn't become part of the meeting agenda, it will most likely never get resolved.
