Re: [RC] [RC] Improving the walk, was pacing anglo - Shelley Kerr
Try checking out the
site http://www.gaitedhorses.net/GHArticles.html
I went to the site and they have alot of training articles which are
really good. One is about getting a better walk. Pertains to
gaited horses, but you can easily convert the information for all other
horses

That's interesting Barbara. I have noticed Manny's walking gait
improving abit now that we are training more on hills. I thought it
was my imagination.
Truman and Maureen, I think you are both on target. I think it is
a little of both, conformation and rider. I have done extensive
Dressage lessons with this horse, he is pretty well balanced and has good
self-carriage. I also do alot of bareback riding to teach my hips to
be more fluid and not bracey. In fact I think his walk is better
when I do ride bareback.
One other thought: Manny has a pretty well set back
shoulder. I wonder if the saddle impinges on his shoulder and
shortens him in the walk. Could the saddle affect him in the walk
but not in other gaits? Any thoughts?
