Does anyone know how to train a horse to gait?  I have a arab/saddlebred whose trot is OK, but when he does the extended trot, it gets really rough.  I should be able to train him to gait.  His lope is decent, fairly smooth.

gait him most of the time. I wish he had a better
trot, as it would be nice to have the option. also,
I miss the sense of drive and impulsion in a trot-
gaiting just isn't the same.
So were I you, I would train in both gaits, as it will
give you some flexibility. On a long ride, it is nice
to have a variety of gaits to choose from.
