We used to have problems keeping weight on one of our's, then we had Sarah Metcalf do his teeth properly. He'd been floated before, but a real equine dentist is a LOT different than floating. At any rate, we haven't had a problem since, and he did 15 rides this year on not much more than beet pulp, hay, and a little Strategy. Mostly beet pulp and hay, and he went through the whole season just a tad chubby. Before that, we tried all sorts of things, nothing worked. Anyway, the equine dentist may seem like a lot of $$, but if you subtract out the savings on feed, it probably pays off in a few months. I'm sure it isn't the answer for everyone, but next time I have a horse that doesn't keep weight on, first call is to the dentist. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
