[RC] [Guest] Leatherwood Mountains Statistics - Ridecamp ModeratorAbbie Hanchey abbie@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx We are not claiming to be the toughest trail in the country. In fact we do not want to scare people away, we just want them to be ready. Every year management has gone to great lengths to make the trail doable. Our completion rates get better and better as the years go by. This is why we think we are ready to try a 75. Tevis riders have told me that a 100 at Leatherwood would be impossible, I hope on day we can pull it off. The trail is very safe. We have very few rocks. Lots of h20 on the trail. The climbs and desents just never end. You are either going up or down. The 11 mile loop we are known for goes through a Blue Ridge Mountain Canyon called "Bob's Branch". There is aprox. 3600 feet of elevation change in this 11 mile loop. The longest climb is 3 miles long. This is as tough as it gets though. The rest is moderate. (People sometimes think I am crazy when I call it moderate, but it is!) Our ride times have gotten faster as the years have gone by too. This year the 50 mile winner did it in 5 hours and 50 min. In 2001 the winning time was 7 hours and 30 minutes. We are learning how to help riders complete this ride. We hope to keep growing and getting better as the years go on. Phil and me are commited to putting on first class endurance events. You really should make an effort to "ride the mountain" if you ever get a chance. You won't regret it! =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
