[RC] robert e. lee and traveller-american saddlebred - Ed Kilpatricki have a book entitled, the ultimate guide to horse breeds, by andrea fitzpatrick. in this book it says that the gaited stock used to develop the american saddlebred and later, the tennessee walking horse, was a breed called the narragansett pacer, which of course, has a pacing gait, also known as the stepping pace. the naragansett was crossed with thoroughbred, and in later years combined with morgan and standardbred blood to produce the american saddlebred. the tennessee walker is of similar extraction, but the foundation horses for the tennessee walker didnt come along until 1886. cowboy ed
