Keep in mind that several breeds developed from the same basic stock--depending on how particular lines and strains were selected and bred. The Saddlebred, the Walker, etc. all come from "thoroughbred" lines--but specific traits possessed by particular individuals were desired and selected in some areas for specific uses, and bred on accordingly. Go back far enough, and you will find a fair amount of the same root stock in the gaited breeds (developed primarily in the South), the modern TB, the Morgan, and the American QH.
