Angie Yep and those were probably the kind of horses that would go and go without weird human-created conformation problems and unsoundnesses. Our first horse was a small to mid size grey mare with hard black feet. Even looking back at the photos I cannot tell you what breed or cross she was. Maybe Arab size, but no Arab head or tail set. Certainly not chunky like a QH. Well, my father said she was the "kind of horse" used and wanted by the Pony Express....just tough little nondescript horse. I remember seeing a copy of an ad for pony express horses. They wanted greys with black feet.
