Re: [RC] Fw: [RC] What makes you do this? - Debbie BuickWell, I hear you. At 51 and having cleaned 21 stalls daily for 10 years, building fence, building barns, riding and driving, breeding, training and showing, putting up 3000 bales of hay yearly, I don't need to diet to stay fit either. But I sure make sure I'm able to walk and run when I have to. The boob comment was really from my husband, saying how can that be enjoyable? Not having big boobs I couldn't answer his question for him, sorry. I think 100 miles might be okay, but do it over 2 days, and think more of the welfare of the horse. Riding after dark is not the safest for rider or horse either *** Horses actually see quite well in the dark.My often going cantering around on a moonlit night for the sheer fun of it, dancing in the dark. . There just seems to be a whole lot of things wrong with the entire senerio of endurance riding. And like I said, how fit are the riders anyway? Some couldn't run 100 yards, some couldn't even trot their horses at the vet, someone else did it for them. *** Rather a blanket statement / opnion. I used to run track and worked on trail crews, but I have metarsial problems (probably from running so much and carrying 4 children) that Running is pretty much out. I have to wear special shoe inserts, but I do walk a lot and could run ,it just hurts. Many people have some kind of disabliity that still makes them be able to ride their horse. ***** And whats this about mammatory glands? Really, so what cup size should an have been around too many cold bloods. I spend most of my time holding one back, not ever urging him on. It's the ones in the rings that are bored silly repeating the same circles.(yes, we do those circles too, he told me, he is bored silly and wants to go out on the trail.)Just my observations, if it makes you feel better, flame away. I am not closed minded, I just can't see this as being a fun sport to put your horse through. Deb*** You have your own perspective. But you don't seem to have given much chance to really 'see' .......... Granted ,there are some who overdo anything. But just becasue a horse gets tired, it isn't a bad thing. You seem to think it is.---- I get tired working out, but is it good for me at 48? Is it 'bad" for me to lift 50 lb. feed sacks? Push 900 lb hay bales? Get on a horse and maybe get piled?Clean 4 stalls by myself. Heavens occasionally clean 10-15 stalls at a barn? Is it competetive miles, much less the training miles, maybe into the 100,000 especially those in thier teens and twentys that are still sound and want to 'go'. Laurie , who may have too much cup size for this sport (now what size is allowed???? just B cups and under???? _________________________________________________________________ Get dial-up Internet access now with our best offer: 6 months @$9.95/month! http://join.msn.com/?page=dept/dialup =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
