"The AERC Horse
Welfare committee is proposing what you suggest as a rule change - that all
new riders be required to complete their first 4 rides at a slower pace, 2/3
of the speed allowed currently under the 12 hours per 50 miles. i.e. 4 hours
max for a 25, 8 hours max for a 50. The committee is also recommending that
horses must meet criteria within 30 minutes of the finish (it is currently 60
minutes)."
A lot of new riders buy horses that are
experienced endurance horses that are already in condition and have already done
several endurance rides. Should they be forced to go slow also? Maybe the
wording should be changed to "all new inexperienced horses be required to
complete their first 4 rides at a slower pace......." .
Or maybe we should just change our name from AERC
to NATRC. : ) Carol.
