Re: [RC] New Riders - proposals - rides2farThe AERC Horse Welfare committee is proposing what you suggest as a rule change - that all new riders be required to complete their first 4 rides ata slower pace, 2/3 of the speed allowed currently under the 12 hours per 50 miles. i.e. 4 hours max for a 25, 8 hours max for a 50. This would have made it very difficult for me to start my junior. Many experienced competitors start their juniors on experienced horses. The kids are supervised and the horses are accompished at the pace. Any way there could be a loophole for "sponsored" newbies? Could a newbie literally be sponsored by an experienced rider and ride under the type rules a junior rides under now? Someone who didn't have a mentor could use the 8 hr. rule, mentored riders could be "sponsored". To avoid someone claiming a fast mentor and blowing it out maybe say a person has to have 3 rides before they can be considered for a placement award? Just a thought.
