Re: [RC] teach your horse to come when called - Jim HollandYes....every horse I have ever owned. There are a couple of methods of teaching "Come to me" on the SERA Website (www.seraonline.com)under TRAINING ARTICLES. There are other ways espoused by various clinicians to teach this. It's easy to get them to come up for a treat in their own pasture...just becomes part of their daily routine. The HARD part is getting them to do it when they are fearful and stressed. It's much more likely to happen if the horse is "bonded" to the rider and looks to the rider as "herd leader/protector". Here's a "mild" stress test... Walk out into the middle of the pasture with your tack. Call your horse over and tack him up without restraint. (No Treats!) If he will do that, then you probably don't need a device to find him if he's lost! <grin> My two horses? Sunny, yes. Magic is getting there....
