[RC] Tevis Recommendations.. - steve shawI thought that the newest publication by the WSTRF about "Recommendations for Riders of the WSTR" was really cool and then someone said "Well what part of it?...." OK, called on the carpet. Though I would rather be doing exerpts of "Ten Feet Tall, Still." Here is what I think is cool about the Tevis's messages to riders (and crew.) "You must be a fit and experienced rider, and know how to check basic physiology on your horse such as pulse, respirtation, hydration, and capillary refill. Asses yourself about how well you function when you have to stay up long hours working on something important..... [looks like I will never get to ride another Tevis..?]" CREW "You don't want to be disqualified because they let your dog run loose or they got into arguments with the ride officials." ON TRAIL "If you don't get off much on rides, now is a good time to start practicing. Get in shape by jogging or hiking. Teach your horse not to step on you or crowd you when you lead him on the trail. Teach him (this is fun...) to tail up the hills ahead of you. Equipment considerations... I won't repeat this section....ALL of it is necessary and if you want to do the Tevis you will get this publication or entry and read this... After your ride.... This whole section too is a must read, and something we should all try to do after EVERY ride..... I am sure that there are other sections of this manual that others might want to point out and I hope they do.
