My horses get slight ridges too, all about the same time.Asked my 
farrier(went to Okla. horsehoeing school) and he said they can be from 
change in diet, or a rainy or dry season, anything that might affect the 
hoof.We don't "have pasture"and feed ahay from the same farmer year 
round,same grain,etc.
