Re: [RC] fever rings now feeding at rides - Mike & Kathy KellyI also do what I can to avoid changing feed at rides, bringing along hay and beet pulp which I also feed at home. At a 50 last weekend, they had all kinds of horsey treats at the vet checks. I was glad to have the hay and carrots for Gabriel, but kept him away from the grain, especially because I don't feed him any grain at home. But at the last VC (15 miles from the finish) on my way out I gave Gabriel to a volunteer to hold for me while I stopped at the Porta Potty. I was only gone a few minutes, but when I came back he was happily chowing down on a pile of grain! I'm not blaming anyone but myself, I should have specified no grain as I had with other volunteers who had held him at earlier VCs. Anyway, up until that point Gabriel had scored all As (thru the 3rd VC). We rode the final 15 miles at a slow pace, and at the finish he had a C on gut sounds, all the rest As. I attribute the slow gut sounds to the grain, but who knows for sure.
