Re: [RC] 'fever rings' in hooves - Elaine DelbekeWe have noticed that the rings on hooves are just like the rings on trees. They can tell you the last year of history of the horse. You can see the change from hay to pasture, high clover content to grass feed, from barefoot to shod - and back again, hard riding, and layoff time, even changes of angle say from being left a couple of months in the pasture then back to regular trimming, riding with easy boots, sickness and a lot of other little things going on that show up in the rings on a horses hooves. Sometimes, unfortunately, they show something that we might have done better/fixed if we had been more in tune with what was happening at the time. We pay a lot of attention to those little rings especially during training and ride season as they sometimes tell us it is time to change what we have been doing.
