You are exactly right in switching helmets for one
with a better fit. When not riding, I spend my "real" life as a Safety
Officer preparing people for that event that "will never happen to
me". Helmets, no matter who they are made by must meet very specific
safety criteria. For you to be protected as intended, the helmet needs to
fit properly, be adjusted properly and be worn properly. I see many riders
who let their helmets tip back on their head. In a fall these helmets are
not going to protect you as designed. Also, safety head gear, of any type,
needs to be removed from service (toss it) anytime that it is involved in a
circumstance where the helmet is impacted. Although the helmet may look
fine, it is designed to absorb shock and the impact may have degraded the
construction of the helmet, hard hat, or what have you, so that when you are
counting on it to protect you it may not perform. Industrial safety gear
must be recertified if it is going to be put back into service after an
accident. Remember, when purchasing that helmet always look for that
certification that states it meets ANSI standards, other wise, it's just a
hat.
Cora, good for you on your purchase of a new piece
of safety equipment.
Just got a new Tipperary Helmet...this is really
the first helmet that fits!!! It's awesome!! Been using a Troxel for the last
10 years...decided I needed a new one..the hole wasn't that
big....
Really...this fits like no other helmet...you
know as soon as you put in on....Cora
