Important Advice Re: [RC] Worming for Tapes - Suvut

I called the hot-line today about the adverse reaction my older horse had to the Equimax.  Here's the advice the veterinarian gave me:  If you have a young horse, you will probably not have an adverse reaction, since young ones have not had time to build up a large load of tapeworms.

If you, however, have an older horse who has not previously been wormed for tapes (like my 19 yo), you should lessen the parasite load gradually instead of all at once (like I did).  She advised me to either put my two other older horses on a month-long program of daily wormer, then worm with Equimax -- or do a double-dose of Strongid, then a month later, worm with Equmax.

She also advised to worm with Equimax (or some other product that gets tapes -- like Zimecterin Gold) every other wormer -- or every 3 months.  This will prevent a huge load of tapes building up.

Sounds like good advice to me.   I am not a vet -- just passing along a vet's advice.....
