Re: [RC] [RC]OT water jump - Vicki AustinGabi, Are you talking about show jumping? Or on the cross country course of a combined training event?? The events I have competed in had ditches with water in them for the water jump. Some had tarp in the bottom and up the sides so the water would stay in. Some (without tarps of course) were not much more than just giant puddles that you jumped over an oxer and into and out of over another oxer. Be careful how you use the plastic / tarp as you do not want to take a chance that your horse step on it and get tangled up on it. I have practiced at home with a double oxer with the tarp in the center simulating water but you really have to have water to make it "real". The best of course would be to find a trainer in your area that could help you with this. It would be well worth your $$$ to do this and a whole lot safer. Hope this helps and good luck. Be sure to boot your horses legs for jumping. My horse fractured a splint bone two years ago (even though I had medicine boots on) jumping a jump he didn't especially like while we were training on the cross country course. He jumped it way to high trying to avoid touching it (it was a small brush jump about 3 ft high) as it looked like it would grab him I guess. Spoiled our whole summer. He is fine now after surgery to remove the fractured bone, but we decided not to event any more. Only long distant rides now. A lot safer and easier on the body, his and mine. Good luck and I hope this helps. I strongly advise that you find a trainer that can help you. I never seen a proffesional show jumping water jump up close and wonder what are the criteria and how dus it work, is there a sort of matras under the blue plastic, or is it positioned straight on the ground etc etc? Some hint anyone? thanks a lot gabi =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
