[RC] recovery times & proposals - LISAFrom: terre <tobytrot@xxxxxxxxx> Subject: [RC] Pulse Recovery .....I think the investigations will show that most of the horses that have died in the last few years did, indeed, recover within a few minutes of arrival at the check. It appears to me that fit, experienced horses "know how to come down" even if there is something horribly wrong with them. What we may catch are the young/new/inexperienced horses, that are excited as well as tired; and may be in pain/discomfort from tack or whatever--in other words, the newbies (or the oldbies too unmotivated to learn). These are exactly the horses that shouldn't be racing! ~~~~~~ it's not that I'm saying that it's a bad thing to be catching the "young/new/inexperienced horses" and newbies and so on before they have a wreck -- but I thought all these proposals are in aid of having fewer horse deaths. if it's true that most of the horses who died in the past few years did recover very quickly, well, then, how would they have been helped by shortening the recovery window? devil's advocate lisa oberteuffer in santa fe (and complete newbie) =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
