RE: [RC] another proposal - Steph TeeterAngie this is priceless, and honest, and I can see everybody nodding their heads... yes, been there. Do any of you remember Donna Snyder Smith's proposal, several years ago? She brought a proposal before the AERC Board that I thought was very logical. She broke the sport down into levels based upon experience. It's similar to what most of the rest of the world is doing now. I don't remember exactly what it was, but something like: Novice division- 25-35 miles (LD) Intermediate division- 50 - 75 miles Advanced- 80 - 100 miles Horses and riders had to qualify in each division before they advanced - e.g. complete x Novice rider before being allowed to enter Intermediate, and complete x Intermediate rides before going to Advanced. And if the horse has x pulls it must go back to the next lower division and start over with qualification. So - a rider has great incentive to ride wisely, guaranteeing a completion so that they can advance, or so that they are not bumped back down to a lower division. I believe that we are one of the only countries that will allow anybody (new rider, new horse) to ride at any level at any time, and do not impose any sort of penalty for messing up.
