[RC] nascar - rides2farThe NASCAR drivers have more than one car to race and they are replacing > engines and almost the entire car a lot of the time. I watch the NASCAR races > almost every one and go to the ones in California....... This book called "Fast As White Lightning" was about the very early days of NASCAR. Very different world than now. However, after I posted I remembered another part of the argument. The big 3...Ford, Chevy & Dodge were very competitive about which cars were fastest. So long as their car was in front when it tore up or wrecked they could say, "Our car was fastest. It would have won if not for....." NASCAR wanted cars to finish and not just lead till they broke so again the points for just consistantly completing the entire race became important. I've only known of one rider who this part of the analogy would have applied to. This is an honest quote...after running up front for the first loop of a ride, then barely finishing at all she said, "I would have won if my horse hadn't gotten tired!" >geesh< What can you say?
