Anyway.... It's a 2 horse slant load, modified stock with
wall/windows on the nose side and slats on the rear side and rear door. (and I
do have a super duty F250 to haul it with)
*Judy, I just sold my stock aluminum and got one (good deal) with
windows. I STILL maintain windows are a basically stupid idea....as all
the components (latches, hinges, screens and rubber are going to fail sooner or
later). I have the same problem, sinceI don't have the stock sides to
tie the hay bag to...will probably go to corner feeders, insert hay in mesh
hay bag, tie whole thing down, becusae, yes, the hay bag now blocks the
ventilation!
2) Do you always put shavings down? Is this to absorb the
urine and keep the horses from slipping?
*Some of the professional haulers just bed in extra hay, horse can get
head down and munch....I would probably do this instead of shaving. On
my short rides (1/2 hour to hour haul from home), I have manaed to teach 2 of
the mares to pee AFTER the ride, before getting in the trailer! I think
shavings will just encourage them to pee in the trailer, which you want to
avoid.
3) What type of hay bag is best/safest? A net type or canvas
with a hole in the front? I have a collapsible large canvas bag that I
use for the horses when tied to a post or trailer or whatever, but it sits on
the ground. Not a good idea?
*Again, have not figured that one out! Currently using canvas hay bags
with hole in front, it blocks the window, etc. I don't really like the
net type, pony got her hoof caught in one once when she pawed.....
4) What type of trailer ties does everyone like?
Elastic? Safety snaps? Do you tie at all?
well, with my stock, the fastest thing to do was to lead horse in and tie
rope to ring or stock side. Now it seems faster to just snap the bungee
trailer tie and throw leadrope over horses back....not sure why the difference
is....
