Re: [RC] [Guest] relocating to Oregon - M. Paul LatiolaisWell Mary,You are moving to the right place. Take your pick. Any compus direction 20 miles from downtown will pretty much put you into horse country. Most of my endurance team (the Happy Hoofers) colleagues live in Clackamas County, South and East of the Portland metro area. We are close to the Mount Hood Wilderness and hence a lot of good endurance training trails. Go west from Portland into Yamhill County and you get into the Coastal Range. I have not ridden there much, but what I have ridden in was impressive as well. North, across the Columbia into Washington has some great land bargains, and again good riding in the foothills of the Washington Cascades. Hope you get the picture. There is way too much to describe. A lot depends on what part of Portland you want to be in and why. There is a large horse culture in all directions. AND there is at least one endurance ride a month within 3 hours drive from April to November; more in summer. Good luck, Paul L.
