Re: [RC] Tracking lost horses - Sisu West Ranch"jeMaybe we'll end up with computer chips we can implant that will track them .For those of us who ride alone it could even help us be located if we got lost while on our horse! But cell phones don't even work where I live so till then I'll hang on & pray!pepper" After two horses dissappeard two years ago on Minnesota rides (They dissapeared in Midwest sized areas, not Montana sized areas. Neither have been found to this day) one of my friends investigated the tracking transmitters used by wildlife biologists. The bottom line: 1. They work. We were able to track the direction at all times to a horse on the ride. 2. They are spendy. As I remember the transmitters (to attach to the horses bridle) were about $300 if ordered as a bunch and all on the same frequency. If a horse was lost all of the other transmitters would have to be shut off. 3. The reciever is even more spendy. As I recall Thousands of dollars. The company would however, be willing to rent you by FedEx overnight a receiver when you needed it. If a group wants to do this, I could get in contact with my friend and find out the company he worked with. If we could just get 100,000 horse owners to order units the price would probably be $30 or so. Sigh!
