I had the pleasure of sharing the trail with Alina and
Laurie during the first loop at Euer Valley (I was doing
the LD that was held concurrently with the RAT) and am
filled with admiration for them - not only their athleticism
(now I see how come it was I never actually *saw* Alina get
on the horse... she'd run up to a tied-Clown, I'd glance at
something else, look back and she'd be cantering away, stirrups
flapping in the wind <g>), but also how gracious they were -
even apologizing to me for leap-frogging on the trail (on the
contrary, I was enjoying watching their technique so much that
I had to force myself to move on and get out of *their* way).

(Provo decided Clown was his new best friend - wanting to
give chase when she galloped away, and stay with her when
we'd come around the next corner and find her tied to a tree <g>)

As for Dennis Rinde (half of the team that won), I came across
him at the bottom of a very steep slippery hill, getting ready
to tie Magic. He was picking up Magic's foot and I watched with
fascination thinking "Ohmigoodness, he's going to hobble the
horse instead of tying it!" only to realise that he was just
checking for rocks. :)))))  It showed the care for the horse,
even in the heat of competition.
