Re: [RC] related to hauling -(heads out windows) - Jim HollandJonni Jewell wrote: Hmmmm...I know....just your humble opinion, however, I humbly disagree. I live in the backwoods of Georgia, on a dead end road off a dead end road. I would NEVER allow my horse's head out the window where there was danger of an injury from traffic, trees, or anything else, and especially not on an interstate. From my posts to you REALLY believe that I would do something I thought would endanger my horses? At EVERY Endurance Ride I attend, I see riders doing MUCH more "stupid" things to endanger their horses than letting them relax and look out until we hit the main road. In fact, IMHO, running a 50 mile ride in the Top Ten is FAR more dangerous. At a ride this weekend, a rider in the 25 came by and asked if I had saline solution to wash out her horse's eye. Seems it had been swollen even before the ride, he was rubbing it, it was getting worse, and it looked really bad, and there might be something in it. When I suggested that she have it checked by the treatment Vet, since she was in the Top Ten, was worried that it might "change the BC judging if she did that". Of course, it wouldn't. Once the scores are recorded, that's it. However, do YOU think a BC in a 25 mile is ride worth your horse's eye? Besides, Sunny likes to imitate the horse in the GMC commercial (except he likes to do it while eating hay) while we negotiate the winding, single track, FS roads up here. The logic? They LIKE it...the danger is minimal compared to the danger of hauling your horses on the interstate, and I like watching the guys play "mouthy" and Magic grab the hay from Sunny while he's eating it out the window in my rearview mirror! One of the reasons I bought a slant load...so they could stick their heads out! There ya go! <grin> GEEEZ! Lighten up, Jonni! I do it safely and it's a small plesure for them...and me. Jim, Sun of Dimanche+, and Mahada Magic I'm sorry, but people who let their horses hang their heads out their trailer windows are just stupid. I would love to hear some kind of logic to allow a horse to do so, that was WORTH the risk of the injury possibilities.
